Get to Know Susan

Artist. Designer. Maker.

I have always since a young child been interested in art, design and making things. My parents encouraged me to paint and try other crafts such as sewing, knitting and crocheting. I trained as a primary school teacher and was the art co-ordinator in most of the school I taught in as well as other subjects.

​I lived in London and taught there as well. I took early retirement and moved to Suffolk with my husband and dogs. It was here that my interests in textile art and silver clay jewellery blossomed. I now teach both to adults, encouraging my students to ‘have a go’ and enjoy themselves.

I am always looking to improve my knowledge and experience and constantly like to attend workshops myself too!

My mission is to make  beautiful, meticulously crafted, unique pieces of art and jewellery as possible.

These art and jewellery pieces hopefully will inspire moments of happiness and celebration.

To enhance people’s creativity and learning by providing well planned and inspiring workshops to enable them to have enjoyment and and well being.

To create a good relationship with clients and customers through mutual and enduring values ensuring trust.

The Story behind - The Magic of Fireflies and Dragonflies

The Magic of Fireflies and Dragonflies was developed by me Susan Studd over the past 5 years.

I mainly use nature and natural things for inspiration to create textile art and silver jewellery. I forage locally for materials whoever I can and also use vintage materials too.

I work in my lovely studio in Martlesham in Suffolk. 

​The Magic of Fireflies and Dragonflies Studio is open to the public where I run a variety of workshops with myself and a selection of really good quality traditional and contemporary crafts by other select local teachers.
