Becoming a silver jewellery designer-maker

My Story

I am Sue and I make unique handmade silver jewellery mainly inspired by nature.

All my jewellery is made by my own hands from silver clay which is an eco friendly metal clay being is 99.9% pure silver which is a recycled material.

I started experimenting with silver clay when I lived in London working as a teacher. I attended a couple of workshops and was hooked. However the studio I attended sadly closed and I didn’t continue on my jewellery-making journey until after I took early retirement and moved from London.

I eventually found the way forward going to a couple of workshops with a new friend and I have continued my learning ever since.

I have always been creative and fascinated by nature, I attended a Teachers Training College where my main subject was Art, I held various posts of responsibility in schools in the London area as a teacher but my favourite was Art and Design.

The Inspiration Behind My Jewellery Designs

Mother Nature is the most wondrous designer of all and I love using flora for botanical work as well as other natural objects such as shells. My absolute favourite are dragonflies. I have had a total fascination since I was a toddler when one landed on me, it didn’t frighten me, in fact the complete opposite is true.

Dragonflies like shells, plants and other natural beings have symbolic meanings which I really believe in.

A dragonfly symbol represents change and transformation. It is a reminder for you to bring more light and joy in your life. It tells you not to remain in the dark or the shadows.

A dragonfly encourages you to dive into your emotions and asks your spirit to soar with your true colors. Have you seen a dragonfly in the sunshine? It is gorgeous!

What do dragonflies mean? A dragonfly asks us to break free from our illusions. As it reflects light, it asks us to reflect our inner selves.

I have made a collection of dragonfly jewellery which totally reflects my fascination and make perfect gifts for every woman if they need that extra bit of magic in their lives as well as a beautiful piece of jewellery.

Silver metal clay is the perfect medium for capturing every minute detail that Mother Nature creates in her amazing designs. Every piece of my jewellery is made individually by hand and is totally unique in its own way. All the findings and chains I use are made from sterling silver.

I work at my workbench in my home in the beautiful county of Suffolk that I share with my husband John and our two border collies, Chas and Dave!

I am a qualified Precious Metal Clay instructor and hold two internationally recognised Diplomas in Metal Clay and I teach silver clay workshops from my home or other venues here in Suffolk.

I am delighted to create a special piece, for you, perhaps from a shell you found on a wonderful holiday or a leaf from a plant from a special place, into a customised and personal piece of silver jewellery.
